Nigeria has been drawn with Sierra Leone in the first round of the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations scheduled to hold in Ghana this September.

The regional Cup is contested by representative teams of the West African Football Union.

The draw, which held in Accra on Thursday, placed Nigeria in Zone A alongside Ghana, who face Gambia; Guinea, who face Guinea Bissau; and Mali, who will take on Mauritania.

All the matches in zone A are to be played in Takoradi.

The Zone B draw saw Senegal drawn against Liberia; others are Burkina Faso against Niger, Ivory Coast to face Togo, while Benin Republic to face Cape Verde.

All the matches in zone B will be staged in Cape Coast.

The winners of the ties will advance to the group stages to form Groups A and B, while the two teams from each group will in turn progress to the semi-finals of the tournament.

As it stands, it is very likely that the home-based Super Eagles, who are currently preparing for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), will represent Nigeria at the WAFU later in the year in Ghana.

However, no official statement has been made in that regard by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
